A super few days were spent at The Royal Highland show. As well as fitting in Pedigree Livestock Services work covering multiple breeds across the show, I showed a young eleven-month-old Shorthorn heifer.

There was a strong turnout of the breed and she was the youngest in her class, so I was content enough to be placed in the middle of the field. She was rather sharp when I showed her, as it’s the first time she’s been out. After bursting into the ring and having a tussle or two, I managed to show her reasonably well when it mattered and when she was in the judge’s eye line. After a couple of times out in the grand parade over the weekend, by the time we were loading for home, she was as quiet as a mouse! A learning curve for both her and me.

On our return late on Sunday evening, we were greeted by more ducklings scurrying around the pond along with a bigger surprise in the form of a tiny Pygmy nanny kid.

Andrew Morton was a worthy Beltex winner as the classes were huge and the quality simply superb. Catch up with the full Beltex results and watch my chat with Beltex winner and judge.

Until next week, Steph
